Artifact Reflection

I. What is the artifact from this course?
The artifact I selected from EDL 733 is the article entitled “Teachers Behaving Badly” by Chuck Waggoner.

II. Why is this artifact selected?
Choosing between the Waggoner article and Duffy’s “Balancing of Round Stones” was a difficult task. However, I am partial to Waggoner because his concepts parallel issues that are developing in our building and district.

III. What learning or understanding occurred through the selected artifact?
What was important in the article was Waggoner’s clarification of how poor relationships develop among teachers and principals. What is humbling is how people see and hear the same thing, but interpret it so differently.

IV. In what ways (personally and/or professionally) are you different as a result of this learning or understanding?
The elucidation of the how these problems occur is important to me. The difficulties in our district are not novel in any sense. That is important for me to know, because if other districts have faced the problems, then other districts of overcome them also. Armed with that knowledge, I can better help teachers in my district deal with our situation.
